Illusion

by Richard Vince

She could be perfect.
She could be
A thousand things, but
I choose to make her into
Words on a page.

Her voice I find
Surprising, but somehow
It fits with her smile
And the way she stands,
Her eyes a million miles
Away in some
Unfamiliar land.

The places she goes are
Merely names on a map
To me, but somehow
She brings them to life
As she makes conversation
Around them.

There is so much more
About which I want
To hear, if only to
Dispel the illusion
I have caused to
Reflect from her.

How could I say it
Without being
Misunderstood?
Perhaps my eyes have
Already misled her by
Being awed.

I need to be kept
In suspense, so I need
To be patient, for
All that I need to
Know will become
Clear in time.

Hi Richard. I love this because is serves the imagination so well, and in doing to leaves the images up to the reader's fancy. Well done, I say. (IMHO) Thanks.

Sweet, insightful, exploratory. I love stanza one-- just perfect. And I like your stanzas--the first... 5 lines, the second 7, the rest six each... to me the first is surprising and thus it's short, poised breathlessness, the second fuller--longer, as if containing the "million miles" and then the rest balanced and explanatory... I like the line breaks in the last stanza...each one has a sense of suspense--in tune with the content!

What a fantastic dichotomy. Someone you know so well, but so many things you don't know about this person and have the patience for them to be revealed. And yet, even though she's an illusion, her voice can be heard, although it might be in your mind. Maybe she's like a goddess that is mythological, but exists because she's in your mind and know that someday, somehow she will appear. I'd love to see this as potd and I'm voting for it.
