Tulips at Bedside

by Lisa Marie Brodsky

I’m surprised the tulips grew
still in their pot
with minimal water

but they flourished

the red skirts twirling open
by my bedside

where my dreams of you flourished,
always in the periphery
of my subconscious

just like upon opening
my eyes
blinking in the dead of night

the tulips were always there,
in the periphery

growing, blossoming
into the memory of you.

I like the comparison of a flower blossoming to "other" things that blossom in the bedroom. Well done, great read! -Kat :)
