Emily constantly queries me

As to what books she can read.

I want to shout out genres, titles, authors.

Instead, I take her to the bookstore

Wandering the stacks with her

Discussing the nuances of authors,

Store displays, books that are coming out.

We never have that time-worn discussion

As to whether the book is better than the movie,

We both know the answer, smiling all the while.

Sometimes we have to pick up a book to read

Or re-read it because the movie is coming soon

Then we're off to the cinema, if just to see

If the movie is true to the book, to the author.

Author's Note: Emily is almost 11, and the best speller of the entire Elementary school! (She reads a little too, 83 books last year!)
