Monkeypod Mojo

by Alisa Js

I will remember the 'almost'
and relish the memory,
enough for a lifetime
enough for an evening,
enough for a heartbreak or two
but not mine,
mind ya'
I have seen your type
I can quote your next words
they never fail,
they're always the same ...

it's funny when I think of it
which I seldom do
guess I'm in rare form tonite,
none of this really matters
at the end of the day
because the love in my heart is not just for anyone
but for him when he steps into my life,
and I will be almost perfect
every dream come true,
it could have been you
but I saw straight through you ...

don't worry, my dear
your secret is safe with me,
not a word from my lips
I never tell ...

I figure it this way
we're all adults here
all on this pathway called life,
who am I to spoil it for another?
that's your responsibility, to be honest
it's not my burden nor cross to bear,
as for me I know my true worth
I no longer have the taste for quicksand
or endless circles
who has the time?

I like my eggs scrambled
honey with my tea,
I love strawberries
anytime,
that's enough for me ...

I've lived long enough to recognize the game
and the last time I checked
I'm not playing,
no, for me and my lover
I'll completely blow his mind,
he will be my pleasure
anywhere
anytime ...

the next time will be for life
I've had enough of maybe's,
I have no use for stop and go
it's everything or nothing,
life's too short for monkeypod mojos ...

We can all relate to the wayward ways of our youth and, as you, do not regret. For a woman it must be a little tougher but not always. I have been hut badly by a maybe. But now i ahve a forever, although at times, I wish it was never! HA! Nice piece and I can sense your commitment to this ideal. Take care!

As far as imagery and form goes, one of your sharpest pieces to date.

What a great piece of work Alisa. I love the way you are saying, "it's your loss..." And you're right, life is too short, move on and enjoy life with all it's strawberries :) Perfect... I think the best one of yours I've read so far
