The Dance

by Jane E Pearce

We stood waiting as the band

vamped-feet tapping impatiently,

until the full body of the song

led us to the undulations

of the rhythm, and notes

fell over us as rain showers

of a hearts desire -cheek to cheek

we hummed the tune,

"It Had to be You"

over and over - like driving blind

in a storm, always making it home.

.

The band stopped playing,

the song was eclipsed as time passed

by some inane bee-bop or such.

Music - a sensual license to

touch, and feel another in unison.

.

So many things to remember,

so many steps to dance alone now,

as the music plays softly in the shadows-

and the strings and brasses bring it all back-

of the hearts I have known- of the smiles

I've been shown-"It Had to be You"

Really sweet--I can see it all and feel it all now! You have created an inforgettable atmosphere here--just as unforgettable as it is for you. Amazing presence of the moment--the meeting.. the love. Yes.

I had one great dance in my life...and we were into C&W at the time...but I still remember the feel of being swept around the floor with his arms around my waist and his chest against my cheek (he was taller)....great poem, great sentiment!

its moments such as these that remind me why i should cling to memories... because they bring back a smile and a time when life was so much simpler!
