The Dance by Jane E PearceWe stood waiting as the band
vamped-feet tapping impatiently,
until the full body of the song
led us to the undulations
of the rhythm, and notes
fell over us as rain showers
of a hearts desire -cheek to cheek
we hummed the tune,
"It Had to be You"
over and over - like driving blind
in a storm, always making it home.
.
The band stopped playing,
the song was eclipsed as time passed
by some inane bee-bop or such.
Music - a sensual license to
touch, and feel another in unison.
.
So many things to remember,
so many steps to dance alone now,
as the music plays softly in the shadows-
and the strings and brasses bring it all back-
of the hearts I have known- of the smiles
I've been shown-"It Had to be You"

| Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 01/19/07 at 05:06 AM Really sweet--I can see it all and feel it all now! You have created an inforgettable atmosphere here--just as unforgettable as it is for you. Amazing presence of the moment--the meeting.. the love. Yes. |
| Posted by Genevieve Sturrock on 01/19/07 at 01:46 PM I had one great dance in my life...and we were into C&W at the time...but I still remember the feel of being swept around the floor with his arms around my waist and his chest against my cheek (he was taller)....great poem, great sentiment! |
