I can't stop the world's axis-spinning
from this shoebox

(not even with a letter opener and a sash across my chest
not even with an army of kittens and an iceskate blade
not even with a Lego-shooting machine gun.
I am all needled and pinned by anxiety
in my little corner with the flashlight on)

and the window blinds down so no one will spy on me,
but I want to so desperately.
