beautiful by Maria Francescahe jogs around the front of the car
to open the passenger door
making certain she knows
that his mama raised him right.
she swivels gracefully,
presenting a legs-first view
as she accepts his offered
assisting hand
and on the surface
they are beautiful.
he rests that hand
at the wonderful spot
at the small of her back
as they approach the maitre'd;
helps her out of her coat
and into her chair
smoothly orders a fine red wine
-in French, of course.
she is consciously graceful,
deliberately appreciative
outwardly fascinated.
and as they sit in companionable silence,
each gazing into the other's eyes
and inspiring more than a few envious glances
from nearby tables
he wonders
if she'll put out tonight
while she calculates
the financial benefits
of such a physical investment.
and on the surface,
they are beautiful. 01/08/2007 Posted on 01/08/2007 Copyright © 2025 Maria Francesca

Posted by Shirin Swift on 01/08/07 at 07:34 PM You've captured the calculating courting ritual well, i enjoyed the smoothly ironic tone of this. |
Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 01/08/07 at 09:38 PM I really like the last five lines. The imagery is so well handled, with simple, but extremely vivid language. |
