Wasted Are Words by Tony Whitaker
“I don’t have long to go. No” – Jim Morrison
wasted are words
depicting my best friend
dear Lord how I wish
they could bring him back again
life is short on our sojourn
to that distant shore
his life on this earth cut short
still wanting for more
plagued since his teens
what a dreadful disease
beleaguered to the end
a silent killer – diabetes
I miss those hours we filled
with what mattered to us most,
The Doors, The Beatles,
God, the girls and the jokes
twenty years we were friends
seven years gone and missing him still
but I sit here smiling knowing
soon itÂ’s my turn to pay the till
Brad, know this my friend
when my own lights go dim
please get me front row tickets
for Hendrix, Lennon and Jim

So don’t waste words with those you call friend.
Treasure them with actions, not with words, until the end.

Posted by Alisa Js on 12/30/06 at 03:13 AM reading through your poem reminds us all .. the importance of love.. the importance of letting those who matter know... and the importance of doing not simply saying.. and tho your poem is about the love shared between friends, it does remind me of one I wrote titled.. I Want.. with the same message of ..'NOW'... thanks for sharing, Tony... alisa..;-) |
