That Old Guy

by Joe Cramer

I'm that old guy that you see

Quietly waiting in line

Speaking with no one

Watching everyone, slyly.

Always carrying a book to read,

Pen in hand, poem on my heart.

Waiting for the moment when the muse

Will strike, and the verse will start.

Author's Note: I had always thought my muse would be a woman, instead, I have found that my muse is poetry. "Ay, there's the rub."
