There is always such a promise to be

Of so many things to come quickly.

If I but now had the sight to see,

Though far too often I see all darkly.

I get this notion, such a fine feeling

That I know I have previously found.

Without it now, my senses are reeling

While my feet remain firmly on the ground.

Sometimes I feel I truly do know you

"Let us be good friends," I heard you once say.

This is exactly what we should both do,

We have known this always, and for today.

Such a promise for a future to be,

In your friendship, I am forever free.
