Lost Between Two Shores

by Tony Whitaker

As I sit and wonder
my heart is aching as it explores
the absolute love of my wife
and a need for something more
now I find myself lost between two shores

This life is short but to live it right
keeps me faithful behind these doors.
but my mind cannot leave behind
these thoughts of one I undeniably adore
now I find myself lost between two shores

If I stay the course and allow my heart
to suffer what my mind ignores
Will I lose my mind or continue searching
for whatever it is I am looking for
now I find myself lost between two shores

Let me make the right choice
and not become something one abhors
but allow me to live this life
so bring back the love again for my wife
now I find myself lost between two shores

Author's Note: I have been married for thirteen years to a wonderful woman. But anyone who has been married for very long will sometimes look over the fence. But character comes from your choices. And there is only one thing you can take to your grave - integrity!

This so beautifully expressed your dilemma. Beautiful.

The image of being lost "between two shores" is perfect for this, and definitely sets this poem out upon the poetic ocean!

There are three things a man must have and those are intregity, character and honor. Reading through your poem, it brings me great joy to know you are one. My ex-husband, on the other hand... had a MAJOR.. AND I MEAN MAJOR.... problem with his zipper staying up.....guess that explains why he's my EX-husband!!!!...lol...lol...lol.. I enjoyed this one... :-)
