Hands

by Joe Cramer

I look down and see

Old wrinkled hands

There in front of me.

I had often wondered

How these hands of today

Would look so many

Long years ago.

It's funny today

To see them,

These old hands

That still hold blue pens

Lining the blank pages

Of my life with verse.

Joe, it's incredible that people don't realize just how much their hands do. You've taken one aspect, looked at these "tools," and treated them with veneration. And, whether the hands "Lin[e] the blank pages/Of [your] life with verse" on paper or in reality, they will never stop serving you in a multitude of ways.
