Coffee and Cream

by Trisha De Gracia

When you lay your hand,
rough and soft in places
grooves I've come to understand
scars from my bad memory,
across her flesh,
a different colour- a different smell
a different give from your fingertips
a different cry in the dark
a new and scintillating swish
across a shimmering swath of skin
will you remember
coffee and cream
long brown hair that falls across a face
fingers through a mat of curls
laughing and giggling
drowning in stars and shining
so deep
underneath the remembrance

one sin for another
one price for a happiness we gave in stone
one doubt for the definate absence of others

or

will you simply forget it?
