Starlight

by Genevieve Sturrock

starlight
starbright
first star
i see tonight
i wish i may
i wish i might
have the wish
i wish tonight
i wish
for you
to peacefully sleep
the whole night through
mommy's here
daddy's near
there's no need
for you to fear
so hushabye
lullabye
sleepyhead
close your eyes
let your dreams
take you far away
until the night
turns into day
the night is dark
but pretty soon
out will come
the stars and moon
starlight
starbright
first star
i see tonight
i wish i may
i wish i might
have the wish
i wish tonight

Author's Note: I wrote this while running so it's has a very repetitive, soothing rhythm which my children found calming. Because the last stanza repeats the first it was very easy to just continuously sing this with no breaks or 'starting over'...it was their favorite lullabye when they were little....closely followed by the Monster Song

a beautiful piece! children love and need repetition so do not feel the need to explain! it is soothing to them and i'm sure they loved this!
