Millenial Christmas

by Amanda Bullington

Snow falls down
White, glistening, cold in appearance
Inside the inflatable snow globe on your front lawn.
Gone are the days when children traveled
Through the day wearing snow encrusted boots
And soggy jeans leaving puddles
With every step.
So stop becoming mad when you
See that deflated Christmas/Hallmark
Creation on Dec 25 morning: kids just
Think that Santa can't work under
Tropical conditions. They're trying to
Absorb every last artificial bit of
Holiday spirit, no regard to others
Expense or their own naughtiness.

And when you're an acting, tired elf
At the Mall each weekend after
Black Friday, pretend your
Pointy ears aren't glued and Santa's
Beard is real and Mrs. Claus wants
Nothing more than good little children
Holding candy canes this year. Pretend,
For that's all today's kids Have left of superstition.
