One Gift

by Charles M Harrison

Many a gift we have received
on each Christmas past.
They bring joy for awhile
but it never seems to last.
No mater how they shine
the size or the cost.
Some will dull, or be broken,
and others will be lost.
We all smile for awhile
with happiness and joy.
For we know there is love
given with each box or toy.
Memories of these gifts
however will fade with age.
As we all grow older
and pass through each life stage.
One gift will we recall
when our end is near.
One gift can then fill our hearts
with love hope and cheer.
One gift that was given
for all in the world to receive.
Who will open wide their hearts
admit, accept and believe.
One gift wrapped in cloth
and in a manger born.
One gift of the greatest love
given on the first Christmas morn.
