Failure by Sahar RahimFailure is a dark path
A bitter taste that forms around the edges of your dry tongue
A burning deep within like acid eating a hole inside you
Your chest tightens so you can't breathe
The brain becomes slow as though every thought fufills no purpose
Eyes become heavy, shifting slowly and unfocused
It's as though everything just doesn't matter any more
Because failure knocked on your door
And when you opened it, completely unaware
There was a gun pointed directly at your head
And BAM!
The little flag shoots out
Hanging there
Calling you a failure
And flapping in this unseen wind
Laughing in your face
And damn you just didn't see that coming
Blind sided completely
Or at least that's what you tell yourself and others if they ask
You had absolutely no idea
But you did
Because you've been slowly slipping away for months even years
Letting every little hardship build inside you
Until that one incident just throws you over the edge
And here you are
Staring down this narrow black path
You can barely take a step forward the walls are just so close
And you figure, well hell why move at all
Yes why move at all? 12/16/2006 Posted on 12/17/2006 Copyright © 2026 Sahar Rahim

| Posted by A. Paige White on 12/17/06 at 02:39 AM yeah, buddy. That flag flaps in like the wings of some monstrous bird of prey. Well said. |
| Posted by Angela Nuzzo on 12/17/06 at 09:39 AM Holy crow, Sahar! This is excellent! The gun with the taunting, flapping flag is a perfect image for this emotion. Great ending. Well done. :) |
