As I Remember by Tony WhitakerI love to walk this wooded path
as dawn breaks the silent night
hearing the forest wake in its delight.
Falling dew, morning fog
soft and fuzzy like a wooly moth,
or a mother's arms so warm and soft;
Then, I remember
I see her coming into view
a past I once held so true
moments hoping she summons too.
The tidal flow of rising feelings,
my mind metes out a vivid memory
across a vast and tortured time;
How I remember
In the shower lovers laugh
as the water our bodies wrap
your smiling eyes as we embrace
diamonds dancing off your face.
Forced to stop to reap this feeling
and in my heart races a memory;
Yes, I remember.
Into azure eyes so blue
we both know what now's come true
in the knowing we are through
one last time the end ensues
Locked in time as we kiss
both are wise to what we'll miss
Before we fall into our own abyss
and I remember
As I pause upon this path
trembling, wishing you were here
wanting once more to feel you near.
But I refuse to bear this cross
for life is short and then all is lost;
But I will always call to you my dear
as I remember
