Memories Forgotten, (Part II)

by Alisa Js

Then out from the shadows flowed a smile so discreet
Fragrance of petals from a rose or something like that
I think,
Maybe ...

Faint words from a song I'd heard somewhere before
Jumbled around in my head
Trying to make sense
As we sat there and felt the quick flash of a fire,
But from where came the flame as the cabin was stark
with only a bed and a breeze?

We looked at each other through teenage eyes
and felt for the first time
a new kind of high,
Desperate for love
but too young to care
Not knowing everything came with a price,

Boundaries unknown to such innocent minds
and we crossed several lines that day,
Having the time of our lives...
In that sharp well lit cabin we both stumbled into
in the still of that evening sigh...

Twists taken on roads without resolution
will alter the course of one's life,
Leave innocence stranded and branded as worthless
until comes the yawning of jaded confessions
to fall on those hearts now
so empty,
Barely remembering to beat
As grown-ups we try to remember
The thrill of the promise
once sweet,
But how can the splendor be truly believed
by cynical souls such as we?

And we stagger around grieved and frustrated
by those very words we've always longed for,
No longer with meaning
for how could they?
As they were spent without thinking or caring
For that one day when we most needed
those memories again,
Long forgotten away with the wind...
