Peter

by S.J. Tyler

Peter waited by the window
Holding out his hand to me
Me: A child waiting for guidance
A small animal
A follower

His eyes smiled with mischief
Reaching out until I moved
I took hold
And away we flew
Onto a rooftop
Above the village

I went along, unsure of what to expect
Searching for reassurance
In his all-knowing eyes
Wise beyond the years
His sleek new body might suggest
He is one who will fight for his youth
He is one who should never age

On the rooftop the world below stops
Time is frozen with us in it
And Peter laughs at my discomfort
“Why are you in such a rush to grow up?” he asks
“Don’t you know what you have now is wonderful?”
“I want to know things,” I answer
“Well, I can show you,” he replies

He looks deeply into my eyes
And as I look into his,
I see all there is to know
I blink and I can see no more
He holds me and says,
“You see, boy, there is nothing more to know”
He takes me over his knee
And spanks me until my backside is raw
And in my newly hardened skin, I understand
If I hold onto him, I’ll never grow up

Really interesting image, man. Really well done, too.
