Three Month Anniversary

by Alisa Js

I saw him again last night
he came to me in a dream
right outside a window screen,
he was there...

I remember looking at Mocha,
my new baby
a lilac point Siamese
and responding to someone
saying,
'he's gorgeous, so cute and so sweet
but he's not really like Ashley
not even a little bit'

a question came across the room
'do you think he'll ever come back?'
I turned
and replied,
'of that, I am certain'...

Snacky, a tabby I gave to a friend
stood up and stretched at the screen so leisurely
and when I looked
there was Ashley
and there on his collar
a little black bell
the next thing I knew
he was inside the room
with a small blue sweater across his cute little face,
I took it away and reached to hold him
as soon as I did
the phone rang ...

looking at the calendar
I noticed
it's been three months to the day
since he crossed over,
maybe he came to visit
if only in my dreams,
oh Ashley!
its so hard for me emotionally
after eight years my heart won't let go
I miss you
and my soul continues to cry

oh Ashley!
why?

how could he do this?
to you and me?
to rip through my heart like this
every time I remember
every time I see your face

Author's Note: "In memory of Ashley" I took Ashley, my eight year old Maine Coon to a certain vet in good faith on August 22, 2006, trusting in his experience as a veternarian and what did he do? He killed him!!! All without expressing any remorse or reason!! Inexcuseable!! My soul still cries!! This is a dream I had recently. Some days are harder than others ...

So sorry for your loss Alisa. I miss my dogs and cats that have gone to heaven. I know there is still a lot of life in my parent's dog, but when she goes it will be very tough...
