Scraggly Christmas Tree Value

by A. Paige White

...

And from the sunroom came a thundering crash
"The tree's up Mom!"

tiptoe gingerly from this dinosaur of a computer
Scared to look
If the tree's up, what then, crashed down?
Nothing amiss

"It's scraggly and it's got gaps, but it's up."
"What crashed and burned?"
"Oh, I knocked the box off it was in."
Well, if it's scraggly and got gaps, why do you want to put it up every year?"

He moans and groans at his sister's harassment, but secretly he loves it. This is HIS job. His pet. HE gets to say, when somebody asks him for further decorative or wrapping labor, "Hey! I put the tree up!"

Author's Note: Won't be long before that beard is long enough for me to snatch and yank his face down hard....
and kiss his cheek.
...so handsome
