Amazing Grace

by Joe Cramer

Grace came into my life with a bang

Two souls together, sitting on a beach.

She left with nary a whimper, hardly a cry.

And I did nothing to stop her, encourage her.

Sometimes I am certain that I lost

A true love in my life.

She cared for me, it's true, but how long

Would she had continued thus?

One day Grace was here, now she is

Forever gone. I am left with some sweet

Memories, and many others that are not so sweet.

Grace came with a bang.

You lost Grace. There is a lot of word play here, as well as as wistfulness, and it starts and ends with a "bang". You use everything-- the concept of grace (which adds the element of enlightenment coming with a bang) the song allusion (I was lost...) and your own personal story about this, all very well bound into a potent poetic capsule... showing well "what's in a name"!
