"There are No Unicorns on Big City Streets"

by Cristy M.

a dairy dandelion by the kitchen sink
a mermaid tossling the feathers of
a bird in sleep
a clock whispers reminders

ope'ning hours and closing calls
close by the watchful eye of

a lamp light in false slumber
a lazy day gazes past

cats curled in the hammock
dreaming of some rendezvous
with quiet shrew mice
(and warm milk bowls, too)

a hum of leathered passengers on
a pairs of two-wheeled swine

stags make passes at Diana,
then bound away--
this is the clouds blanketing

an afternoon sky.
Teacup saucers in place of
Sunday's sun,
passing but on
a cooler's archless back.
