Blue Moon or Something Like That

by Alisa Js

if the truth be told
where would you be,
really
I wonder aloud as I write these words
almost everywhere I look
every place I turn
I see you,
but not around me ...

and I want to say
who the hell do you think you're fooling?
what makes you think I'm so dumb and deceived?
it's almost an insult ...

when you respond
in my head I can hear you so clearly,
it no longer rings true
for I have seen too much
to be just a mere coincidence,
I’ve heard them all before
calls in the night dropped mysteriously
empty platitudes sprayed
without substance or reason
and you're thinking, what!
I’m a fool!

do you really expect me to be so damned grateful
for any little crumb tossed my way
rolled in excuses and hurried good-byes,
don’t you dare tell me you love me
then treat me like a platonic friend
the consummate professional, full of grace and pain...

no one's the wiser
for no one pays attention
to the obvious glares their voices bring,
‘sorry, wrong number’
but fifteen times, wrong?
something or someone’s a liar!

do you really think your secret's safe
who’d notice
little ole' me
just a bird on a limb
of a golden oak tree,
some where out here
singing a tune,
blue moon or something like that ...

Oh yeah. And I think you did a pretty good job of capturing that.

Wow indeed. It was like listening to a powerful speech. I was drawn in to it, couldn't look away. I could see the confrontation in my mind. Fantastic!
