there are some rays darker than most
without any warning they appear,
you're walking down some side street in paradise
others stroll by
hand in hand
and you smile remembering when ...
cars rush along
birds up ahead
all is fine
everything clear,
skies bright
hints of lace chase the blue
feel how the breeze
plays with your hair
how the strands blowing like that
across your face
kind of feels like a caress ...

and for a moment
you stop and just take it all in,
suddenly transported to some other place in time
a note
a line
some fragmented phrase in your head
a couple of words
oh yeah, that's right
hmmm
no one at home
no dinner with wine just for two
no telephone calls or emails to read
no one but you,
only you ...

clouds roll in heavy and quick
suddenly cold
no one around
where did everyone go?
it's dark out with this new moon
yeah, right
and you wonder if you took a wrong turn
nothing seems right any more
something's askew
and it looks like its beginning to rain,
could have sworn it was daylight
just seconds ago
dark rays are here
again ...
