a rambler bent on heaven

by Peter Humphreys

in the West
there is
a place
so secret
few
would dare
to venture
but
we did
we do
and
underneath
the deep
black
sky
pin-pricked
by Orion's belt
I rest
upon your rising breasts
and hold
your hand
against my chest
as out across
the haven broad
the mist
twist turns
and then
returns
to cool
our passion spent
but
early in
the creeping dawn
your eyes
pour
into mine
a love
so deep
a love
so true
I wonder
if
I am good
for you
a rambler
bent
on
heaven

Another beautifully flowing piece. Great stuff

Hi Peter. Yes, your title says it all. Posed as a question to ones self, this is humble and caring. Excellent write.

I really like the use of "rambler" very much,-there are several meanings and they are all suggested, and charming. One who wanders, definitely as you have mentioned venturing to a secret wild place, another is one who digresses with words--actually you are quite pointed and directional here-- but still exploratory and vast, and finally the climbing and endearing rambler rose--of which "bent on heaven" might aptly be said, and the form of the poem mimics in it's reach upward... I like all of these and the open sky intimacy here too!

From the moment I started reading this my eyes misted as it reminded me of another time and two younger souls I used to know had nighttime excursions that greeted the dawn. Your poem is touchingly beautiful and the imagery so vivid it took me there. smh
