Memories to Heartbreak

by Alisa Js

Great agony overwhelms this breaking heart
Leaves me gasping for daylight
As I fumble around
Stumbling in the midst of these endless tears
Nothing makes sense anymore,
A trusting life ripped from my world
and these words simply fall to the floor, splat!
Nobody listens ...
Guess they don't hear me,
I'm stuck somewhere in the middle
Of this horrific scene ...

Let me wake up to sunshine
and the sound of your smile, one more time
I need to see you again,
I'll get your breakfast
In your special crystal dish,
and we'll enjoy the morning, like before ...

But the truth is, you're not here
You never came home
It's not your fault, Ashley
How could you have known?
You trusted me to care for you
and I did the best I could,
Took you to a vet
Who had over thirty years of knowledge ...

But what did he NOT do?
How could he let you die?
What was he thinking?
What did he hide?
There was no reason for this outcome
None!
Careless is what happened
and you paid the ultimate price!

I can hardly believe this
I can hardly maintain
My outrage and anger at such negligence
He will pay for killing you, Ashley
I promise!

Author's Note: "27 August 2006... thinking of my late cat, Ashley...still sad...and outraged as I found out, this particular vet has a history of other animals dying in his care, due to negligence"
