everything behind us lies in rear view mirrors

by Frankie Sanchez

don't look now,
he says with one hand reaching for his ignition,
but everything behind us lives in rear view mirrors,
he says this with the boldest curiosity
as if he dares me not to look,
he says, i dare you

everything behind us lies in some surgically altered state,
the way memories are only fragments of truth
forged to gether,
daring me not to use my eyes,

he says this with his sock-covered feet pressed
against the windshield, breathing
heat against the glass,
don't look now, he says with intimidation,
but everything we've done lies in the dark
behind us
in ruins
beneath a sky

don't look now, he says, his breath steady,
something like a hover craft,
movement
without touching,

don't look now, he says,
daring me to close my eyes,
and to gether we use our senses,
our skin;
shielding and bleeding and touching
and staying
still
straying
in all directions

everything behind us is forged to gether
asking to be forgotten,
i dare you to close your eyes, he says
and he's gone
somewhere behind me,
fragments of truth
forged together in hovering breaths
and footprints left on windshields,

speaking in half-truths everything behind us lies,
in silence,
in the dark,
under clouds,
everything you have done and have loved and have lost
now lies in rear view mirrors,

don't look now, i dare you...

Damn, man. Way to kick ass all over the place.

killer action here f.s. the normal raw spillage of shattered emotion & life mixed in this wild smart blender and splattered on this canvas. you need to produce more work. i need inspiration from good young writers. this is quite genius, with touches of fatality, beauty and fragility. it's a delicate breed of things...a sexy combination of carelessness & going for it. stay alive bro.
