[Library] To Whom It May Concern: by Nikki RiceIn the midst of all my
talking... talking... talking,
I only need someone to hear
what I'm saying in my silence;
I only need receive the gift
that is everything
for which I could never ask.
I only want a flower
if it means
we will grow together.
I only want chocolates
if they mean
we will eat each other alive.
I only want a ring
if it means
we are wrapped around
each others' little fingers.
When you see me lean toward you...
squinting...
do you know that it's because
I fear losing focus?
When I clasp my hands in front of me,
do you know that it's because
that is the only way to keep myself
from holding you here?
When I take a sip of my coffee,
do you know that it's because
that is the only time
I can bear to let you speak;
the only way to keep shielding words
from spilling from my mouth.
Sometimes I hear what you say
and sometimes I hear your silence.
Just like me,
you'll never ask for what you need;
you hide it in between.
