Home

tiny plain house

by Maria Francesca

beige from walls
to picket fence;
cheap
and
slightly dog-eared

but
the second-hand sofa
is soft
and
the kitchen
smells like cinnamon

and
the laughter
is my child's
and
the shoes in the closet
are mine

and
a wealthier home
never was built.

Strong and independant. The choice of details and spice especially cinnamon... make this poem memorable! It gives the feeling of unspoken depth.
