Mitzvah

by Amanda Conlogue

I'm drawn to the lines of your body,
the easy sway of slender hands,
the curve of spine, irregular
freckles and elliptical scars that span
the slope of your shoulder blades,
I've lain naked at your side, entranced
tracing my finger across your neck,
drawning invisible lines for my lips,
my fingers and kisses are ticklish
and you smile, eyes closed and turn
towards me, arms open
its an invitation, its a demand
and I accept, I succumb,
whole-heartedly, joyously
I curl my body into you
into homecoming, your arms
wrap around my shoulders
tangle in my hair, your artist's hands
skim down my back, one rests on my hip
the other trails back, I settle into you
nose tucked into the hollow of your throat,
breasts pressed into your chest,
I feel prickles of sweat forming
but I won't move, our legs entwine
and this is where I close my eyes and give in
to the long drawn-out week and spaces between us
and I sleep
