Holiday Ramblin'

by Tracy Ellen

Thankfully, I’m not a football fan.

Here comes the holidays
Here come those from far away
Home, where is that again
Here with my friends?
Or there with them?

I’ve a holiday planned
Taking my kids to suck the teat
Of one of the most powerful
corporations in the world
And we’re gonna love
Every fucking minute of it!
Especially the part
where I kill My dad with his silly coffee contraption!

These folks here in the office,
They like to wear their reds and whites
Their orange and blues,
And later, their reds and greens
Sipping coffee, staring at the machines
Can’t wait ‘til the boss brings the Krispy Kremes!
Now, that’s Christmas, uh, I mean the Holidays, of course.
Hope no one caught that; I like my secular image just fine,
Thank you!

Anyway, apparently I need to make more money
To celebrate the holidays properly
Tape and cards and wrap and bags and food
And tinsel and a tree and bulbs and food and decorations
And tissue and Holiday towels and tableware and finally, food!
Oh yes, and a lot of junk…wait, I mean presents.
That’s it!
I’m converting to a religion which prescribes
That you only give gifts when they are deserved
And/or you really like someone!
Jeez, I keep forgetting I’m not religious!
Not religious, but still not immune to Christmas!

By the way, I love Christmas Trees, I really do.
