Unseen Images Disguised

by Mark Maxey

damp cold pathways lead to a lost dream
hidden discarded remnents meant to live
but escape death tonight...once more

children left alone to fend on their own
fast walking workers on their path of fortune
turn a deaf ear and blind eye to their existence
too much media and not enough reality

existing on cigarettes and adult offers
no love or concern pushed forth this birth
hell on earth in a land of plenty
the land sacrificed for freedom that has died

children left alone to fend on their own
fast walking workers on their path of fortune
turn a deaf ear and blind eye to their existence
too much media and not enough reality

images looped on hdtv on 300 channels
400 aural titulations for the ear on satellite
faster technology to dazzle the mindless
images that disguise reality

children left alone to fend on their own
fast walking workers on their path of fortune
turn a deaf ear and blind eye to their existence
too much media and not enough reality

children left alone to fend on their own
fast walking workers on their path of fortune
turn a deaf ear and blind eye to their existence
too much media and not enough reality

children left alone

It's sad enough when adults are homeless and forgotten by society or simply invisible, but when children are remnants, it's even harder. They are more voiceless than adults, especially when preyed upon by those who should be taking care of them. A very touching and emotional poem, Mark. Would love to see this as POTD, as a reminder to think about children, since Christmas is soon - not every kid has a beautiful tree and stacks of presents beneath it. Some would give anything for a warm sweater or clean set of clothes.
