it's so much easier to miss you when it rains

by Lauren Pearl

woke up late this morning,
exchanged sighs with strangers,
bought some coffee i didn't finish
and couldn't throw away,
carried it around all day
until it was more rainwater than
anything else,
kicked it to the curb.

shared umbrellas and stale
cigarettes with boys
who smiled when they spoke,
who asked what i was doing later,
who weren't you.

sat on the porch and stared at a phone
that wouldn't ring, that hadn't
rung for days, weeks now and actually
felt sorry for myself.

thought about looking fat in some jacket and
thought how this would just be easier
if it wasn't so fucking cold all the time,
realized, regardless, i would always feel frozen

blamed it on you.

they say it never really rains
on the lone star state,
but i wonder, when it does,

do you ever think of me?

Author's Note: i'm not even joking when i say this is the first thing i've written in over a year (sans papers for school, of course). pathetic, right?

"bought some coffee i didn't finish and couldn't throw away, carried it around all day until it was more rainwater than anything else, kicked it to the curb." That pretty much sums up my life. Great job. Thanks.

I adore this poem, it breathes with a raw but thoughtful voice...I love the flow, how it winds around your mind, taking you along the poetic path of memory, visualization, perception and creation...there was not a line I didn't like...a pleasure, well done, peace, jewels xo
