retinal transcendence by Shirin Swiftwhere day and night shake their heads
and part from the sun
wounded on its pedestal of wax
and drained of despair and joy
meditating angels thrum
in viscous shells, volatile natures scrum
i write in darkness
not trying to read the words
bath water bursts between the walls of my neighbor
i write in darkness to be quiet
to let fears entomb
and quieten the distance from
molecule to molecule, atom to atom, ashes
i meditate without trying to meditate
fail without desiring to fail
succeed hopelessly to the overleaf
there is something beautiful
about the way her eyes are boats
you display a quiet rose behind the ice passages
where day and night shake their heads
and clouds part the sun 11/15/2006 Posted on 11/15/2006 Copyright © 2024 Shirin Swift

Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 11/15/06 at 05:29 PM I love the inner dialogue here, and the italic imagery is fantastic, especially as it floats within the rest, I love the concept of succeeding to the "overleaf", the "quiet rose between ice passages" many unexpected and associative as well as incidental occurences here, giving the feeling of reading over your shoulder noticing what you notice, but squinting in the dark! Induces a trance-like response. |
