"The Death of Marat"

by Joe Cramer

An allusion to death

The life of Jean Paul Marat

Supports the French Revolution

While criticizing moderate Girondists.

During his seclusion

In the sewers of Paris

Marat contracted a skin disease

Which forced him to spend most

Of his later life soaking in a tub.

David's "The Death of Marat"

Personifies this allusion,

Or allegorical implications.

Interesting historical commentary. I'm not familiar with it, but the facts of Marat's life are certainly incredible.
