a break in reality.

by Jared Fladeland

This is the truth screaming for recognition:

i am scrapping by on a few dollars in my pocket.

i still manage to eat well.

if you want a real meal of anger
look in the mirror and consider who's responsible
for all those scars behind your eyes.

and if you're brave,
you can split your lips and say out right
"it's not my fault"
and get on with your life
because that's what winners do
and you want to be a winner
and you can do it
because you are "you" in the god-like sense.

Tell that to the credit card companies,
the cable company,
the phone company,
the duplex management.

Truth bites.

"Welcome back as we return to the world of surrealism!
When we last left our hero..."

cynical, well-said, and true.

Amazing work. Honest, raw, bitter, and most of all...real. Every line of this hits home. I'm adding this to my favorites. :)
