Somber Silence by Joe CramerThey sat across from each other
Not even sharing a smile, wink or nod
In the twilight of the early eve, of their lives.
Perhaps all of their words had been said
That they had wanted to say
In the course of their lives..
They sat across from each other
Not side by side, not even close
Quietly eating their meal
Without even sharing a word.
Who knows what had been previously said,
Shared or even once held
In the twilight of their lives?
Mechanised motions of life,
Shared together in somber silence
Without a smile, or even a sideways glance
Between two people who joined for a meal,
For the evening, in their solitude.

| Posted by Janine Euladia on 02/22/07 at 11:48 PM I love the images your poem created. What really puts my mind into a frenzy is.. You described there silence as someber, but are they really somber? I wish I could walk into the my image of the poem and find out more. |
