Amusement Park

by Matthew Taylor

Circling life's circumference on the little red train,
putting up your hood and staying, even in the rain.
The ups and downs of the roller coaster
life has all of those,
and kiddie land and ice cream stands,
sometimes it's like a rose.
Excitement fades as the day wears on
the anticipation of youth's vibrancy is clouded in
light blue and grey.
Other times there are no rides at all
the day gets in the way.
Maybe the park has closed for the winter
or renovations of sorts.
Our lives indeed close for a season
at times without rhyme or reason..
health conditions, hang a vail of tears over
family traditions.
Sometimes we lose a loved one,
like the balloon that got away..
seems they're sailing into forever,
we cry for them to stay.
out of energy, money all spent,
time to go home,
but....
we did have fun, and when you weigh it out
A day at the amusement park is always worth it
whatever the cost,
and we never got lost.

Author's Note: just a parody of life in reflection to a day at Palisades Amusement Park in the 60's, some inner lying sadness though.

Fascinating analogy. Great format. Mixture of philosophy and wry humor.
