stick figure woman by Maria FrancescaI noticed in passing
a stick figure woman
on the sidewalk
outside the Louvre
poorly drawn
by a careless creator
in cheap white chalk
only so many yards
away from Da Vincis
and Kandinskis
and I thought
how lucky she was
in her situation:
away from the eternal undeath
and rarified air
inside the museum
unscrutinized
unprotected
unadored
and witness to life
and I wondered
whether the Mona Lisa
wept. 11/05/2006 Posted on 11/05/2006 Copyright © 2025 Maria Francesca

Posted by Richard Vince on 02/20/07 at 12:42 AM lovely capturing of the extraordinary in the ordinary. i love this sort of poem, especially when rendered as beautifully as this one. |
