stick figure woman

by Maria Francesca

I noticed in passing
a stick figure woman
on the sidewalk
outside the Louvre

poorly drawn
by a careless creator
in cheap white chalk

only so many yards
away from Da Vincis
and Kandinskis

and I thought
how lucky she was
in her situation:

away from the eternal undeath
and rarified air
inside the museum

unscrutinized
unprotected
unadored

and witness to life

and I wondered
whether the Mona Lisa
wept.

lovely capturing of the extraordinary in the ordinary. i love this sort of poem, especially when rendered as beautifully as this one.
