She Had No Poetry in Her Life

by Joe Cramer

She had no poetry in her life
Devoid of all feeling or emotion.
I would have poetry in my life
This is my love, my muse, my devotion.
Though favor has found me wanting,
Waiting until that fateful day
To share a word, a line or two
Sharing my love with you in this way.
Without poetry in your living
Life is just not worth the effort.
So much joy to be had, daily
Despite any servitude, or a effront.
She had no poetry in her life,
My muse, in vicarious spirit only.
The fish out of proverbial water in spite
Of all that was shared, belonging.
I will hold poetry in my life
As the thoughts spill forth from my pen.
The words that I long to share with the world
Often start, stop, and then begin again.
Until my thoughts no longer do unfurl,
I will have poetry in my life.
