down on the banks
people stop and
stare as on the
weir a black shape
stands vertical
dominant like a
calvinist preacher
unflinching yet
cowering slightly
to his left the
heron cautiously
fishes head bowed
neck cowed hesitant
but power struggles
with a visiting shag
do not affect the
lower classes as
duck and coot and
moorhen scoot and
busy themselves
as if shopping on
this more than
average day
