Laughing in Black

by Genevieve Sturrock

church bells are ringing long and loud
and you're laughing at the sobbing crowd
you're laughing in black

the preacher speaks and the people cry
they look at you and they're wondering why
you're laughing in black

they cluster together like some animal pack
they stare at you and laugh back
you're laughing in black

he beat the hell out of you when you were a child
you look in the coffin and you have to smile
you're laughing in black

yeah, he hit you then you hit back
now your father's died of a heartattack
and you're laughing in black

now you're finally free of that maniac
and all you can do is sit back and laugh
yeah, you're laughing in black
