Cicadas

by Joe Cramer

A million cicadas singing to me
In the quiet still of the blissful eve.
Their singing lifts and sets my heart so free.
This much I know, this much I do believe.
Such a serenade, if just to behold
This song of life, this song of the living.
My heart, once weary no longer feels old
From this song now shared. This song of giving.
A million cicadas singing at night
Softly, clearly with such a natural force.
My heart joins in this song, my heart in flight.
What else would I do but sing this, of course?
So many cicadas in this same eve
This song I know, this much I do believe.

I love that sound too, Joe. Just sitting on the porch...listening. Nice poem! :)

Definitely evokes that warm July, sitting quietly outside with a drink in hand as the sun sets. As annoying as the cicada song can be at times, this scene evoked is rather idyllic.
