The Sun? by David NeubauerYou, my dearest heart, are my sun.
You brighten my day, you light up my nights,
to be near you is to be warm, and to know you
is to be joy-filled.
And sometimes in life, the Sun sets.
And sometimes, the world gets cold,
and all looks bleak. But sometimes,
I need to have faith that the sun will
rise again. It has to, sometime...
I can't fathom your perfections,
the things that keep me drinking,
drowning in this well of love.
Your eyes. Your smile. Your laugh.
Your kiss,
So many countless things
that I might wither without.
And of the imperfections, while there are a few
Those are our challenges; I believe in you
A whimsical hope, an ephemeral dream,
that's all that I can hold on to for now. But
one day, maybe
all my dreams can come true.
And you can have your fantasies,
and eat your cake, too.
So if roses be red, and violets are blue...
I know that love can be strong, can overcome,
and adversity will fail. I have faith
that the sun will shine through. 10/25/2006 Posted on 10/26/2006 Copyright © 2024 David Neubauer

Posted by A. Paige White on 10/26/06 at 03:33 AM S2 and S4 were my favorite. Adversity is my daily adversary (but also my best friend), so the last stanza is my daily bread and I relate to it very well. Since this one is written for a special occasion, maybe you'd want to add in one particular memory that you both cherish, maybe try to find a different perspective on it to give an older but cherished memory a fresh polishing that does just as life does... every morning's a new day, but sometimes though it's a brand new one, we get stuck in same ole same ole mentality and need to have a fresh look at the comfortable and familiar... just a thought. Altogether, an enjoyable read, but to me (strictly me) make it more specific to the audience you are actually writing it to. Well, that's my 2 cents.... for what it's worth. |
