the price of love (lyrics)

by Genevieve Sturrock

love is a risk a gamble a game
and when you lose all it's easy to blame
to forfeit at love can harden a heart
for love turns to hate when your world falls apart
and all that you have and ever could need
is taken away or chooses to leave
and you're left alone day after day
that's just the price you have to pay

out of the ash of a love that's turned cold
a new passion burns brilliant and bold
anger and pride jealousy and fear
make enemies of those we held dear
but battles of love aren't won by the strong
and though you are right I am not wrong
your need for revenge strips my self worth away
that's just the price I have to pay

our children don't care who's right or who's wrong
it's not their fault that we don't get along
we break their hearts when we cling to our pride
and make them believe that they have to decide
who's in the right who's love do they give
who's left alone with whom do they live
no matter their choice it fills them with pain
that's just the price we make them pay

don't let it be said that i never cared
because you know that i've always been there
and don't you believe those lies that you say
the truth will come out anyway
and you'll never know how hard i tried
i may not have won
but i came to the fight
sometime we lose so much more than we stake
but that's the price we have to pay

that's just the price love makes us pay

Genevieve,,,, Wow your writing is tearing me to shreds! I can relate. My biggest life achievement was thwarting my ego and pride for my child to not have to take sides. I think I'll write about that next.

Heartwrenching, yet so beautiful and well written. It takes a true writer to write such beautiful things despite their pain; this is wonderful, thank you.
