just in case

by Vere Mantratriad

they'll say you have to
take life as it comes
so I'll take mine with
two drinks but there's no
one to call in the morning
because that's how it goes
sometimes you have to lose
everything to gain the
knowledge of where and
when to go even when you
have nowhere left to go
because there's no set rule
of when to be a lady and
when you should be just
another one of the guys
and girls, you know we're
all just digging a big
rut in our changing rooms
a hole the size of a crinoline
and all the lashes and
blushes we've hidden under
in our cages of fabric
burrowing under trying to
find some way in or out
whichever comes faster
because it's loneliest
in front of the mirror
magnifying every perfection
so should anyone tell you
you're anything less
or that modesty is some
virtue even the loneliest
girl can abide by, just
tell them you're keeping
your skirt hiked up
just in case

I really like how you put this together, one thought relentlessly following another one. Good stuff.
