to love, fiercely

by Vere Mantratriad

every man I have ever loved
has been either mirage or
siren; perhaps equal parts
both as I have been tempted
in, only to find nothing there
(and nothing has always led
to my own slow destruction)
it's a melancholy bit that
I've been led to see in my
rearview (always facing
backwards, always trying to
turn things around) as you
walk away, or run, or slink
I find myself burying my
head to shut out any word
that could not be translated
easily to love (maybe the
truest things were said
with my hearing tuned down)
so I have been diagnosed
with maladies of the social
order and passed off to
hysterics because I can
not comprehend anything that
does not as it should (like
some child, questioning and
unquestioning simultaneously)
because I hold such an
unpopular belief that certain
words are not meant to be
tossed around as easily as
they have slid down and off
the tip of your tongue (as
perfectly executed as its
judgements may be) and that
love is meant to be felt
until death, even if it
dooms you to it.

I absolutely love this...so reminiscent of my own failure to pay attention to warning signs and my own willingness to trust in the words granted me. I can't wait to read more of your work!!

Beautiful and wonderful write. The last 3 lines echo my sentiments about love. You expressed it so eloquently in this heartfelt piece. I really loved it!

those 3 words are said too much they're not enough... most words when overused lose meaning, much like anything else..

Hi Vere. I does doom you to it. But, it's a sweet, blissful, nearly ignorant doom! Great read. Enjoyed this. Thanks.

I thought this was alright. I really liked the name and the idea behind it though!

Siren pulls you in to find mirage/nothing - love this and the poem in its entirety.
