The pros and cons of pursuing love.

by Amanda Bullington

The pros and cons of pursuing love (or lust?)

Both medium height, blond, and handsome,
One with glasses, one without. Both clean
Shaven; one's skinny, one's built.

One I'm kissing, one I'm wishing I had
Just one chance to fall in love with.
Both are the bad boys that my parents
Would despise: clothes covered with smoke.

Both 19, one 25 half the time. Both loveable.
One's a coworker, one I see for fun on my
Free time, everyday. One I'd love to club with,
The other's my drinking partner for life.

One whose past I've heard a thousand times,
Whose future I can begin to predict. The other?
A complete and total mystery. Both can make
Me melt to the ground when they hug me.

One lives down the street, while the other
Lives an hour away. One who calls me, one
Whose number I just got yesterday. Who has
Women taking down the names of those who call.

One whose mother loves me, but for tainted
Reasons. Both with single parents. One lives
Away from home, which I admire. Both share
Rooms with another man in their lives.

One of those other men hates me. The other
I doubt I'll ever have the chance to meet.

And so these choices
Conflict me. The easy
Choice should be the
One i'm with; the
More exciting is the
One I can't have, who
Says I'm his girl
Anyway when he's got
His arm around me.
One may be my soulmate;
The other's mine
Already.

Author's Note: Ugh. I'm so conflicted.
